At Rifugio Col De Varda, nestled amidst the breathtaking Dolomites, my recent stay felt like a hidden gem for those who revel in both adventure and comfort. The location is perfect for setting out on day hikes—or even catching some winter skiing—making it an ideal retreat for my family and me. We enjoyed a leisurely beer on the terrace while soaking in the stunning view over the Misurina valley, and I must say, Jack, the resident dog, was a charming addition to our experience! while the ambiance is delightful, it felt more akin to a ski resort restaurant than a traditional rifugio, which may not suit everyone’s taste. It’s charming, yet I expected a more local flair in the dining options after a long day of hiking. Nonetheless, with free Wi-Fi throughout the property and ski equipment hire readily available, it’s clear the emphasis is on convenience for outdoor enthusiasts. If you're planning a trip to the region, just know that Bolzano Airport is about 80 km away, which requires a bit of planning, but the captivating surroundings make it well worth the journey. All in all, I’d recommend a visit if you’re seeking a base for outdoor adventures, just keep your dining expectations in check!
